The Alps – a mountain range in the middle of Europe, 1200 kilometers long, 250 kilometers deep and up to 4810 meters high; a region whose diverse culture, culinary traditions and climatic conditions are shared by German, Swiss, Italians, Austrians, French, Slovenians, Monegasque and Liechtensteiners. The awe inspiring landscape of snow-topped summits, narrow valleys, abundant vegetation and imposing rock massifs has left its mark on the inhabitants and on their rich and diverse cuisine. The four episodes of this series, “Fish”, “Meat”, “Corn” and “Cheese”, take you on a journey to spectacular places in order to discover the locals’ cooking pots, larders, inns and workshops, investigating the origins and cultural significance of the featured delicacies. Each episode, focusing on a specific product, presents a culinary “miracle” in an intimate setting against a monumental backdrop. It is an in-depth look at unique and authentic food producers and their products, accompanied by relevant historical background information.
