The Eagles of the Forest

“Goooooal!” On the beach, in the streets, over empty fields, far deep down in the jungle: throughout Brazil, everybody plays “Futebol”. But in one particular village, something exceptional is happening… In the heart of the Amazon rainforest, an Indian tribe called the Gavião Kyikatejê (the “Eagles of the Forest”) has formed the first and only native Brazilian professional foot-ball team. Legally registered by the Brazilian Confederation of Football, they won the second division championship, in the state of Para. Now in first division, they have set themselves a new challenge: to make it to the legend-ary Copa do Brasil! Day by day, week after week, we will tell the story of this huge challenge by following several major characters, through training sessions and matches. Meet Zeca, the tribe chief who has had this vision; Aru, the club’s star forward and Gavião’s most sought-after native player; and other passionate members of this ex-traordinary team. The Kyikatejê know the plants and the secrets of the forest and have lived in autarky for centuries, but today they aim to achieve national recognition…
