Life Before Birth

The day that a baby is born is not the first day of its life. We now know that even within its mother’s womb it has an extraordinary relationship with the outside world: nine months during which are set down the major characteristics of who we will be; nine months that mark our destiny. Here, at last, is the story of this awakening before birth. By recreating the story of a couple whose baby suffers from a pulmonary malformation we reveal the highly elaborate communication between the inside and the outside world. Alongside this, parents, children and doctors who have firsthand knowledge of all this, describe with sympathy and understanding the situations where life itself was at stake. We all know how a child is created, but what is it that determines the shaping of each one of us as a unique individual? Through gripping 3D reconstructions, this documentary shows the nine months that are unseen, yet that determine the essential elements of each human being.
