The Abu Simbel temples, rediscovered in the early 19th century, continue to captivate and mystify visitors today. The four colossal statues on the front of the Grand Temple stand at an impressive height of over 65 feet, all carved directly into the sandstone cliff - a truly remarkable achievement!

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people travel over 620 miles from the Nile delta to witness this ancient masterpiece. But how were these massive structures uncovered?
