Are We Alone in the Universe ?
1 x 52' HD
From humanity’s beginning, we have been scanning the skies. The stars have shaped our calendars, our religions, our philosophy and our science. For a long time we believed that stars, along with our sun, revolved around the Earth, which stood at the center of creation. Now we know the sun is just one star among hundreds of billions, on the outskirts of our galaxy, the Milky Way. And the wonder doesn't stop there. The Milky Way is just one of -- thousands? billions? hundreds of billions? -- of other galaxies. It's impossible to imagine the infinity of the universe.
This raises a fundamental question: In this vast universe, is Earth really the only planet to harbor life? To be alone in the cosmos would be statistically unlikely: 1 in 10,000 billion billion.
But how can we identify habitable and inhabited worlds in the immensity of the universe?
How can we detect life forms we don't even know exist?
How can we contact extraterrestrials we know nothing about? And might it be dangerous to do so? Could they, too, be looking for us?
In this documentary, through 3D animation and interviews, we’ll join some of today’s most eminent scientists on their quest for extraterrestrial life.
