Lego City: The Origins of the Lego Empire

1x52' HD
You may have never heard of Billund, but this town is Denmark's second most popular tourist attraction after Copenhagen! And for good reason: it's the birthplace of the world's most famous brick. It's a story that's been building for four generations, in the middle of the Danish countryside. Lego is one of the world's best-known toys. Its bricks and figures are instantly recognizable, crossing borders and spanning eras. The history of this toy is entirely Billund-based. This is where it all began, and the town – like a collection of Legos -- has expanded as the brand has grown. Billund has a population of 27,000, and more than a quarter of the residents work for Lego. The town is home to the head office, the campus where new ideas emerge, and the museum and archive where fans come to find their childhood collections and designers find inspiration. Billund is also the birthplace of the first Legoland theme park, in 1968, with numerous attractions based on the famous plastic toy. The town boasts life-size constructions, such as the Tree of Creativity at Lego House. Standing 15 metres high, it took 6,316,611 Lego bricks and 24,350 hours to build, making it one of the largest Lego constructions in the world! Billund, the heart of brick manufacturing, cranks out Legos in one of the brand's 5 ultra-modern factories. It’s also a logistics hub, thanks to dedicated infrastructure, including Denmark’s 2nd largest airport. Through archive footage and insights from the world's leading experts, discover this extraordinary city, the setting for the history of the world's most famous toy
