Sedan Castle: Standing the Test of Time

1 x 52' HD
Once a modest château, Sedan Castle has grown to encompass 35,000 square metres by literally building on the foundations of its past. During the 15th century, builders laid new walls in front of old ones to create a giant mille-feuille of stone, up to 25 metres thick in places. They had a good reason: to dissuade enemies from attacking. And it worked until the 16th century. Sedan Castle’s innovative construction introduced a new concept to military defense: bastions, which soon spread throughout Europe. Situated near Belgium and Germany, the château was in the line of fire during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, the Great War and the Blitzkrieg of 1940. Almost miraculously, the old, rock-carved castle managed to escape the bombardments of these three major conflicts and has survived six centuries. Now, aided by 3D animation, we'll take you on a journey through the evolution of Sedan Castle, as it grew from a modest building into a colossus of stone -- an exceptional monument destined to endure.
